In Nepal, there is a different kind of calendar from the rest of the world. In Nepal People use B.s. (Bikram Sambat) Calendar. Mainly New Year is Celebrated in 1st of Baisakh of each year
The Bikram Sambat calendar is 56.7 years ahead (in the count) of the solar Gregorian calendar. For example, the year 2056 BS began in AD 1999 and ended in AD 2000. The calendar starts with the first day of the month Baisakh, which usually falls on the 13th or 14th of April in the Gregorian calendar.
Bikram Sambat is the calendar established by Indian emperor Vikramaditya and is recognized as the official calendar of Nepal. The Rana rulers of Nepal made Bikram Samvat the official Hindu calendar in 1901 CE, which started as Samvat 1958.

   In addition to Bikram Samwat, the Gregorian calendar and the Newari calendar, Nepal Sambat, are also used in Nepal. How People Celebrate New Year in Nepal?

Nepal has different culture and religion, so people of Nepal celebrate it in different ways. Some group of people celebrates by following there traditional culture and festival like in Bhaktapur Nepal People celebrate Bisket Jatra in the occasion of New year.
Some celebrate in their own houses and some go to their friends.
People gather in places like Thamel, Pokhara etc. to have fun in the new year because in these places most of the enjoyment and fun program is organized. These places are decorated with heavy lightings and make these areas more attractive.
